First, it was a hit to the mouth, then to the eye. Not too hard but enough to startle me awake with a verbal "ouch".Then in the darkness came the whisper of the cutest voice, "sorry Dad" immediately in my heart all was forgiven.
As I got up I sent him back to his own bed where he could go back to sleep. He must have had a bad dream sometime in the night and got in our bed. As I think about it I can remember getting up after some bad dream or noise that startled me. I too would go into my parent's room if the door was unlocked, if not I would stand at the door and listen for my dad. I was fine as long as I could hear the rhythmic sound of him snoring. I fell asleep there at the foot of their bed or on the floor in front of their door more than once listening to my dad snore and knowing all was going to be ok.
There is just something about your Father's presence that gives you peace and calms your fears.
I am thankful to have been adopted by my dad. He came into our lives when we needed him most. We did not always get along. Regardless, he faithfully provided for us in all the ways we fathers do for our families, quite often that means simply being present.
I am also grateful for the presence of my Heavenly Father. Just being near Him gives me peace and calms my fears. How awesome it is to know that wherever I am He is there with me. Sadly there are times that I too, just like my son Jacob, will need to whisper to Him, "Sorry Dad". I am so grateful to know that in those moments His response is always, "All is already forgiven!"
"All who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons and daughters. You didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but you received a Spirit that shows you are adopted as his children. With this Spirit, we cry, “Abba, Father.” The same Spirit agrees with our spirit, that we are God’s children. But if we are children, we are also heirs. We are God’s heirs and fellow heirs with Christ if we really suffer with him so that we can also be glorified with him." Romans 8:14-17
Have you ever been there? Have you called and said, "sorry Dad"? Do you need to and not sure how?
If you want to talk more about this give me a call or send me a message.
Blessings, David
